Genesis Lewis Has Strong Showing at State Championship
South Granville senior Genesis Lewis capped off an impressive season with a standout performance at the NCHSAA Girls Golf State Championship, finishing tied for second in the 5A division with a shortened 27-hole two-round total of 118.
Competing against the state’s top golfers, Lewis displayed poise and precision throughout the tournament. Her consistent play and smart shot selection helped her stay near the top of the leaderboard from start to finish during two days of heavy rain and wind. The strong showing at states follows a stellar regular season that included a State Regional Championship Title and multiple top finishes across North Carolina.
“Genesis has been the backbone of our program; her work ethic and calmness under pressure really showed on the biggest stage,” said South Granville Head Coach Joe Williams.“ With her high school career nearing its end, Lewis’s performance at the state level has drawn attention from college programs and solidified her reputation as one of the area’s rising golf talents.
Carlos Lewis, assistant coach and father, said, “ I have watched Genesis compete in many junior golf tournaments, and I have never witnessed her play with so much focus and determination to win like she did in this state championship. Genesis relentlessly attacked every hole with her focus on winning the 5A State championship. Her mother and I are very blessed to be her parents. This will not be the last time you hear about Genesis Lewis playing high-level golf.
South Granville High School and the local community are proud of Lewis’s achievements and look forward to seeing where her game takes her next.
