Read to Achieve

Read to Achieve

Read to Achieve is a provision of the Excellent Public Schools Act which became law in July 2012.  This law applies to all schools beginning with the 2013-2014 school year.  This website gives a basic overview of all of the components of the program.  Your child's school will have more details and will communicate to you how this law impacts your child.

The Department of Public Instruction has provided a video that highlights many components of Read to Achieve.  Should you have any additional questions please direct them to your child's principal or Lela Baldwin, Director of Elementary Education, at 919.693.4613 or baldwinlj@gcs.k12.nc.us.

The Read to Achieve initiative is a component of the North Carolina Excellent Public Schools Act passed in 2012.

Parents will receive multiple notifications over the 2013-2014 school year regarding Read to Achieve and the potential impact on his or her child.  All correspondence sent to parents follows: Letters sent to all parents/guardians of rising third grade students: July 2013

SchoolBlocks offers a unique and powerful personalized search system. A member of the public, searching for "homework" might see an announcement from the school as the first result. However, if the user is logged in, they would see their teacher’s latest homework assignment as the top result.
