2015 Governor's School

The Governor's School of North Carolina is a publicly funded residential summer program for intellectually gifted high school students in the state of North Carolina. The Governor's School enrolls approximately 600 students each summer, half each in programs housed at Salem College in Winston-Salem (known as Governor's School West) and at Meredith College in Raleigh (known as Governor's School East). Governor's School is a program of he North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Governor's School serves public, private, and home schools. Students who attend Governor's School are nominated by their schools or school systems and selected on the basis of grades, test scores, an application essay and, for arts students, an audition.

This year we have two students who will be attending:

Elizabeth Holmes is a junior at South Granville High School. She will be attending Governor's School East this summer in the area of Performing Arts/Dance

Lydia Hendrick is a junior at Granville Early College High School. She will be attending Governor's School West for English.

Duke TIP

The Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving academically gifted and talented students. Duke TIP works with students, their families, and educators to identify, recognize, challenge, engage, and help students reach their highest potential. now in its 35th year, the 7th Grade Talent Search identifies bright seventh graders who scored at or above the 95th percentile on one or more of the 2013-14 End-of-Grade tests while attending elementary or middle school. Candidates are invited to take the ACT or the SAT college entrance exams as seventh graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities. In addition, they gain valuable benefits and have access t unique resources for gifted students.

The following students participated this year. Sarah Elliott and Cole Barritt. The two students pictured left also qualified for state recognition. Sarah and Cole both have earned an award by scoring approximately at or above the national average of recent high school graduates on at least one part of the ACT or the SAT. These students have been invited to a special recognition ceremony that will be held at a university in our state.

SchoolBlocks offers a unique and powerful personalized search system. A member of the public, searching for "homework" might see an announcement from the school as the first result. However, if the user is logged in, they would see their teacher’s latest homework assignment as the top result.
