Nancy Russell

Greetings!

I’m so excited to continue to be a part of the Creedmoor Elementary learning community! This is a crucial year as we prepare our students for our ever-changing 21st century with a more rigorous curriculum. Forty-eight states including NC have adopted the Common Core State Standards.

To begin, I need you to know that it is a priority for me to help provide our students with a safe, caring and orderly environment where learning is valued and fun. Each student is unique and it is up to our staff to find out what works best to ensure each student achieves academic success. I strongly believe in Granville County’s vision statement:

Every Student: Actively Learning, Accepting Others, Achieving

Every Teacher and Staff Member: Leading, Learning, Loving Children

Every Parent and Community Member: Invited, Invested, Involved

The vision mirrors the old cliché it takes a village to raise a child and that has always been part of my philosophy . Parents, students and teachers need to work together for optimal success.  It is up to all of us to put education first and stress its importance.

I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I grew up on a dairy farm in Ohio and always knew I was going to be a teacher. I can attribute my strong work ethic to observing my hard working parents and life on the farm-- Never a dull moment, and many miracles of life!

Although I started attending college at Kent State University, I also attended UNC-Greensboro and graduated from the University of Florida with a Masters in Education (Go Gators!). I taught at the elementary level for 16 years before becoming a Media Coordinator/Librarian for five years. Those experiences have led me to pursue school administration and become a principal. I feel blessed to be able to say that I have loved my job for over 20 years!

Of course my happiness can also be credited to my wonderful and supportive family. My husband and I have been married for over 20 years. Our youngest daughter attends South Granville High school; our middle daughter is exploring her career options and recently spent seven months working at a resort at the Grand Canyon, AZ; and our oldest daughter lives in Durham and works at the Museum of Life and Science. We have two precious dogs and a cool cat. We enjoy traveling, reading, cooking, gardening and just hanging out together.

Again, I’m looking forward to another year as part of the Creedmoor Elementary family!
